5 home remedies to prevent and reduce neck pigmentation

Pigmentation around your neckline can prove to be, well, quite a pain in the neck (we could not help the pun)! That telltale difference in tone between the skin on your face and neck can quickly undo your best efforts at makeup. It is important to protect the skin on your neck as this is one of the first spots to show signs of ageing.

Two of the major causes of dark skin on your neck are over exposure to the sun and pollution. So, in addition to regularly applying sunscreen to your neck and face, here are three things you can do to undo the skin damage on your neck.

Aloe vera gel

Step 01: Start by cutting open an aloe vera leaf and scooping out the gel.

Step 02: Massage your neck for a few minutes with this gel and leave it on for 30 minutes.

Step 03: Rinse with water and pat dry.

Benefits: Aloe vera contains a flavonoid called aloesin that helps lighten the skin by slowly reducing pigmentation. Aloe vera is full of essential fatty acids, vitamins and minerals, which makes it an effective and safe way to keep your skin conditioned, moisturised and nourished.

Almond oil

Step 01: Start by cleansing your neck with a gentle face wash and rinse with water. Pat dry.

Step 02: Next, take a little almond oil on your palm and massage your neck with it. You can even add a few drops of tea tree oil to get better and quicker results.

Step 03: Continue massaging the neck in circular motions for about 10-15 minutes.

Step 04: Rinse off the oil using lukewarm water.

Benefits: Almond oil is a really effective solution to reduce pigmentation in the neck area. It is a rich source of vitamin E, which makes the skin soft, smooth and supple. Almond oil works as a mild bleaching agent that helps in improving your complexion and evening out the skin tone. The tea tree oil improves blood circulation and heals any scars or blemishes that may be present in the neck area.

Baking soda

Step 01: In a mixing bowl take some baking soda and add a little water to it.

Step 02: Mix the two ingredients together until they form a smooth paste.

Step 03: Apply this paste to your neck and allow it to completely dry.

Step 04: Once dry, rinse off the paste and clean the area off with water.

Step 05: Pat dry and moisturise.

Benefits: Baking soda is a natural, safe way to lighten pigmented skin. Massaging this simple mixture of baking soda and water onto your neck helps remove the dull layer of skin on it, leaving it looking brighter and smoother.
